10 Zloty Coin – 100th Anniversary of the 3rd Silesian Uprising 10 Zloty Silver 2021 Proof
Issued by the National Bank of Poland in 2021, this 10 zł collector silver coin commemorates the centenary of one of the most significant independence uprisings of the 20th century – the Third Silesian Uprising. Thanks to the bravery and sacrifice of the insurgents, part of Upper Silesia was incorporated into the reborn Republic of Poland. Struck in .925 fine silver, the coin combines historical symbolism with precise craftsmanship, appealing to both collectors and enthusiasts of Polish history.
Reverse – tribute to Silesian fighters
The central motif of the reverse is a dynamic scene of two Silesian insurgents operating a captured Maxim 1908 machine gun. Their civilian attire symbolizes the voluntary nature of the uprising, in which ordinary residents took up arms. Above them soars the image of an insurgent eagle, reminiscent of banners used in the conflict. The composition reflects the struggle for freedom and underscores a strong sense of national identity.
Obverse – national symbolism and emission details
The obverse features the national emblem of Poland – the crowned white eagle – encircled by the inscription “Rzeczpospolita Polska 2021” and the face value “10 ZŁ”. In the background appears a stylized insurgent banner with the phrase “Tobie Polsko” (“To You, Poland”), based on an authentic flag from 1920 now held in the Museum of the Insurgents’ Deed. The obverse complements the historical narrative of the reverse with symbolic and issuing elements.
