The Mexican Libertad is a Mexican bullion coin, produced continuously since 1982 at the Casa de Moneda de Mexico - the oldest mint of the Americas. Minted from silver of the highest purity (999), it is of great interest to both novice investors and the more experienced. It is interesting to note that the coin, which does not have a minted denomination, is full legal tender in Mexico. Such a phenomenon means that the issuer of the coin is obliged to repurchase the coin at the prevailing silver price. The obverse depicts the coat of arms of Mexico, namely an eagle holding a snake in its beak and surrounded by a wreath. Above this is the inscription 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS', or 'United States of Mexico'. The reverse is decorated with the Independence Monument. In 1996 it underwent a change to a more striking one - still illustrated by 'El Angel', but in a new, more modern form.
